iPhones carry the highest PTA tax in Pakistan because most models are valued above US$500. If you are bringing an iPhone from abroad or buying a non-PTA iPhone, here is how the tax works and what it is likely to cost.
How PTA Tax on iPhone Is Calculated
The tax is a fixed amount for the phone’s value slab plus sales tax on the value. Almost every recent iPhone falls in the top slab (above $500):
- Passport: Rs 27,000 fixed + 25% sales tax on the value
- CNIC: Rs 37,007 fixed + 25% sales tax on the value
Older or lower-value iPhones may fall in the $351–$500 slab: Rs 17,800 (passport) or Rs 23,420 (CNIC) plus 18% sales tax. See the full slab table in our guide on how to check PTA tax.
Worked Examples
These examples assume an exchange rate of Rs 280 per dollar. The authorities use their own assessed value for each model, so treat them as estimates:
| Assessed value | Passport | CNIC |
|---|---|---|
| $800 (Rs 224,000) | Rs 27,000 + Rs 56,000 = Rs 83,000 | Rs 37,007 + Rs 56,000 = Rs 93,007 |
| $1,200 (Rs 336,000) | Rs 27,000 + Rs 84,000 = Rs 111,000 | Rs 37,007 + Rs 84,000 = Rs 121,007 |
Use our PTA tax calculator with your own value and exchange rate. For the exact figure, start the registration on DIRBS, which shows the amount before you pay.
eSIM-Only iPhones
iPhones sold in the US from iPhone 14 onwards have no physical SIM tray and work only with eSIM. Before buying or registering one, confirm that your network in Pakistan offers eSIM and that your plan supports it.
PTA iPhone or Non-PTA Plus Tax?
Add the PTA tax to the non-PTA price and compare it with the PTA approved price. Often the difference is small once tax is included, and a PTA approved iPhone comes with local warranty support from the seller. Check current PTA prices on our iPhone price list, for example the iPhone 17 Pro Max or iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Already have a PTA approved iPhone? Make sure it is genuine by checking its Apple warranty coverage.
