Apple’s free Check Coverage tool tells you whether an iPhone, AirPods or Apple Watch is genuine, when its warranty started and whether it is still covered. It is the quickest way to avoid a fake or refurbished device sold as new.
Step 1: Find the Serial Number
- iPhone: Settings > General > About > Serial Number.
- AirPods: connect them to an iPhone, then Settings > Bluetooth > tap the (i) next to your AirPods. The serial is also printed inside the case lid on many models.
- Apple Watch: on the watch, Settings > General > About, or in the Watch app on the paired iPhone.
- The serial number is also printed on the box. It should match the device.
Step 2: Check It on Apple’s Website
Go to checkcoverage.apple.com, enter the serial number and the code, and submit. You will see:
- Valid purchase date: confirms the device was sold and activated.
- Telephone technical support: active or expired.
- Repairs and service coverage: active (with an end date) or expired, and whether AppleCare is included.
Red Flags to Watch For
- Serial not recognised: the device may be a copy. Do not buy it.
- Coverage much older than claimed: a “new” phone with warranty ending soon was activated long ago.
- Replaced device: Apple shows when a unit is a replacement. That is fine if the seller tells you, but it should be priced accordingly.
Copies of AirPods are especially common in Pakistan. If a deal on AirPods Pro 3 or AirPods 4 looks far below the market price, check the serial before you pay.
Does Apple Warranty Work in Pakistan?
Apple has no retail store in Pakistan, so warranty claims are handled through authorised service providers and the seller. Ask the seller which service centre handles claims and keep your receipt. Also make sure the iPhone is PTA approved; see how to check PTA approval by IMEI.
